Choosing a Starting Word
A good opener tests common letters in the positions they usually occupy. There is no single perfect word — pick one and stick with it so you learn how it behaves.
- CRANE: Covers C, R, N and the two most common vowels in strong positions
- SLATE: Tests S, L, T alongside A and E, and S is the most common final letter
- ADIEU: Four vowels at once — useful if you struggle to place vowels
- ARISE: Balanced vowel and consonant coverage with letters that appear everywhere
Spend Guess Two on New Letters
The instinct after a weak opener is to rearrange the letters you already tested. Resist it.
- Play a second word that shares no letters with the first, like MOIST or POUND after CRANE
- Two disjoint guesses test ten distinct letters and usually leave only a handful of candidates
- Confirming a letter you already know is green tells you nothing you did not already have
Escaping a Letter Trap
BATCH, CATCH, LATCH, MATCH, PATCH, WATCH — six words, one letter apart. Guessing them one at a time is how six tries run out.
- When several candidates differ by a single position, test that position rather than the words
- Play a word like CLAMP that checks C, L, M and P at once, even though it cannot be the answer
- Trading one guess for information beats three guesses spent on luck
- This option disappears in Hard Mode, which is exactly what makes Hard Mode hard
Letter Frequency in Five-Letter Words
Knowing which letters carry the most information tells you what to test early and what to leave alone.
- Most common overall: E, A, R, O, T, L, I, S, N
- Common openers: S, C, B, T, P, A
- Common endings: E, Y, T, R, and especially S
- Rare, save for last: J, Q, X, Z, and V
- Watch for doubles: SPEED, LEVEL and ERROR are all valid — a letter you have seen can appear twice

- How do you play Wordle?
- Type any valid five-letter word and press Enter. The tiles change color to grade your guess: green means the letter is correct and in the right position, yellow means the letter is in the word but somewhere else, and gray means the letter is not in the word at all. Use that feedback to narrow the possibilities and solve the word within six guesses.
- How many guesses do I get?
- You get exactly 6 guesses to find the correct five-letter word. Each guess must be a valid English word.
- What do the different colors mean?

- If you do not guess the word within 6 attempts, the game ends and the correct word is revealed. You can then start a new game immediately.
- What is the best Wordle starting word?
- The strongest openers cover common letters and spread out vowels. CRANE, SLATE, ADIEU, ARISE, and STARE are all excellent because they test high-frequency letters in positions where those letters often appear. There is no single perfect word, so pick one you like and use it consistently to learn how it behaves.
- What should my second guess be?
- Spend the second guess on brand new letters rather than rearranging the ones you already know. If your opener revealed nothing, a word like MOIST or POUND covers a completely different set. Two guesses that share no letters test ten letters out of twenty-six, which usually leaves only a handful of candidates.
- What do I do when several words fit and I am running out of guesses?
- When the answer could be BATCH, CATCH, LATCH, MATCH, PATCH, or WATCH, guessing them one by one wastes turns. If you have guesses to spare, play a word that tests several of the candidate letters at once, like CLAMP, even though it cannot be the answer. One informative guess beats three lucky ones.
- Which letters are most common in five-letter words?

- Yes. The game is fully responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. You can use the on-screen keyboard or your device's keyboard.
- Is there a time limit for each game?
- No, there is no time limit. You can take as long as you need on any guess. The game rewards deduction, not speed.
